Where We’ve Been:

Homeward Bound was founded in 1973 by parents of children with disabilities as a not-for-profit community-based alternative to institutional care. Over the 30 plus years of its existence, HBI has developed “state of the art” homes to meet the complex and difficult needs of both children and adults with severe disabilities. The New Hope and Brooklyn Park residences were developed in the 1970’s. In 1996, New Hope was closed and several smaller homes, funded under Minnesota’s Home and Community Based Waiver, were opened.

Where We Are Today:

Today, Homeward Bound is one of the largest providers of residential services to individuals with severe and complex disabilities. It continues to provide personalized, long-term supports to both children and adults in the metropolitan area. It also offers families with adult or minor children with disabilities, In Home and respite services.

Where We Are Going:

Homeward Bound will continue to expand its services to adults and children with disabilities, and their families. It is committed to growing its base of donors to maximize its federal and state funding in order to ensure supports are what individuals and their families want. Homeward Bound will always remain an individual and family centered organization, where extraordinary services are delivered and satisfaction is the norm.

Mission:

To be the leading provider of life-enriching services for children and adults with disabilities.
